Gabatron Morning Briefing – 10-9-15: Sweet Meteorite Of Death

A giant asteroid 2 miles wide will pass by Earth on Saturday. It will be one of the biggest to pass close to our planet in recent times, more than 15 times bigger than other asteroids currently on NASA’s radar.

Interesting Stat of the Day: 1,360,747. Number of homeless students in the United States, about twice the number there were in the 2006-2007 school year.

Newt Gingrich says that he’s be willing to consider being interim Speaker of the House, if he could get the votes.

In science news, NASA’s just confirmed that Pluto not only has expansive fields of water ice on its surface but blue skies as well.

Plus, An 800-pound man enrolled in a hospital’s in-patient crash diet program, hoping to get down to 500 pounds so he could safely get gastric bypass surgery. And he lost 20 pounds and decided to celebrate, which got him thrown out of the program. Why? Because he celebrated his 20-pound weight loss by ordering a pizza.
