Gabatron Morning Briefing – 6-30-15: The Cosmic Ballet Goes On

You’re going to want to drop what you’re doing for a minute or two and look up in the sky tonight. Jupiter and Venus have been getting closer and closer to each other and will be just a fraction of a degree apart tonight.

Interesting Stat of the Day: 26 million. The number of people who have emblazoned a rainbow flag on their Facebook profile to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision on marriage rights.

Things are still getting interesting in Greece, where the government says they will default. Banks are closed for the rest of the week. ATMs are running out of money, and when there is money, folks can only withdraw $67 a day.

In science news, today is going to be a long day. Today being June 30th, scientists are adding a leap second to the end of the day.

People in the news, Katy Perry is in a fight with some nuns in Los Angeles. She wants to buy a convent that’s being sold by the Catholic Church and they aren’t happy about it, but a higher power has intervened.

Plus, Stevenson College in California has had to apologize after they thought it was a good idea to serve Mexican food at a school sanctioned party.
